As a Communications Manager, Public Relations you will demonstrate success in both strategy development and end-to-end tactical execution. You have experience working proactively and reactively in Canada’s complex and ever-changing media environment. Using a holistic approach to communications, you will leverage a variety of earned and paid media channels to differentiate TELUS’ brand in the national market as a world-leading communications technology company and business technology-solutions provider that enables owners to thrive in a digital world. You will also be an adept communications project manager with strong multi-tasking skills and experience acting as a media spokesperson.

Here’s how

 

  • Drive overarching media strategy for TELUS’ Customer Technology Excellence (CTE) and Business Solutions (TBS) teams
  • Develop and manage proactive media and thought leadership campaigns that increase national brand presence for CTE and TBS, by leveraging earned and paid media channels
  • Quickly respond to media requests, including gaining strategic alignment, sourcing data, drafting statements, and seeking swift approval to meet deadlines
  • Write clear and concise communications plans, engaging media releases and messaging that effectively tell TELUS’ story to a diverse external audience
  • Employ project management skills to help keep projects on track across cross-functional teams, including external agencies
  • Continually improve, measure and evaluate existing communications templates, channels and measurement tools for traditional and digital requirements
  • Collaborate closely and on a day-to-day basis with stakeholders across TELUS, including communications, marketing, operational, creative and support teams, as well as subject matter experts within the business
  • Drive and grow the external presence of TELUS executives through thought leadership opportunities, including interviews, media pitching and other external events
  • Provide strategic counsel and interview support to executives and subject matter experts who are directly engaging with members of the media

 

 

Qualifications

 

What you bring

 

  • You have a minimum of five years of communications experience 
  • You have an understanding of the evolving media landscape and experience across both traditional and new earned, owned and paid media as well as issues management
  • You’re part strategist and part project manager who is as adept at conceptualizing plans as you are at end-to-end tactical execution
  • You have a way with words and are comfortable speaking with media as well as senior leaders
  • You are calm, cool and collected in times of crisis and able to effectively manage your time to ensure deadlines are met
  • You have a keen interest in technology and how telecommunications can help drive innovation to solve some of society’s biggest challenges
  • You have excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills; you love working productively with external agencies and reporters just as much as you thrive on building strong working relationships with your teammates
  • You’re a self-starter and take pride in being organized
  • You’re a sociable and collaborative team player who wants to be part of an innovative, passionate and diverse team that manages the reputation for one of Canada’s most admired brands - and has fun while doing it

 

Great-to-haves

 

  • You have previously worked at an agency and/or have experience operating in a large corporate environment
  • Experience in the telecommunications, consumer technology and/or business-to-business sectors
  • Experience working with social media and influencers
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent post-secondary education
  • Fluency in French

  • This is a mobile role with the expectation that occasional office attendance may be required
  • This is a 14-month contract position

 

 

Midpoint Base Salary:  $84,000
Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan:  12%
