Training & Resource Development Manager, Jays Care Programs

The Training & Resource Development Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s training and resource development to support our staff, coaches, and volunteers in furthering the impacts of programs across Canada. Our work enables us to work with and support communities facing a wide range of barriers including, but not limited to: poverty, food insecurity, inaccessibility, ableism, racism, sexism, and homophobia. Every project we devote time, funding and energy to has been well-researched, informed by our wide range of advisors, and is designed specifically to break down barriers and fortify strengths for children and youth.

Training Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Resource Design Standards:
    1. Manage the development of coach resources that support program implementation such as coach and volunteer manuals, activity manuals, staff handbooks etc.
    2. Oversee any creation of new resources, ensuring alignment with training objectives, standards and Theory of Change.
    3. Regularly update and enhance existing resources to ensure consistency, alignment and integration of up-to-date learnings, research and best practice.
    4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to share learnings and integrate content from new resources into all JCF programs.
    5. Conduct periodic reviews to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation in resource development.

  1. Training Design Standards:
    1. Conduct a comprehensive review of feedback and evaluations data provided by volunteer coaches from Jays Care programs in order to assess and define potential needs, interests and opportunities for growth
    2. Conduct comprehensive reviews of all Jays Care in-person and virtual training content, ensuring it aligns with best practices.
    3. Develop design tools and workshops for staff that help them develop future trainings that integrate best practices and effectively achieve core learning goals.
    4. Ensure that all Jays Care training content is aligned with best practices, industry standards, and the organization's mission as defined by the Theory of Change.
    5. Support the development of a series of self-directed on-line trainings that are accessible to all coaches across the country.

  1. Training Delivery Standards:
    1. Develop comprehensive standards for training delivery for all Jays Care staff.
    2. Observe all in-person and virtual trainings, offering essential feedback and coaching to lead facilitators, in advance of the trainings being released.
    3. Offer one-on-one coaching to staff to enhance their skills in delivering dynamic and impactful participatory workshops.
    4. Ensure constant evolution of training methods across the organization.
    5. Assist in the creation of a comprehensive strategy for coach development, training and standards across all JCF programs that includes but is not limited to:
      1. Identifying core training competencies
      2. Recommendations on long-term skill and capacity development
      3. Incentives programs
      4. Assessment and evaluation
  2. Jays Care Staff Development:
    1. Support the implementation of a comprehensive staff development strategy that covers best in class onboarding, training and professional development.
    2. Assist in establishing of a range of key training and development competencies for all Jays Care staff
    3. Co-design and implement bespoke training workshops for a range of Jays Care staff
    4. Design training assessment tools and evaluate impact
    5. Provide access to on-going professional development workshops from external partners based on need and interest

DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Social Work, Kinesiology, Equity Studies, or related field i.e. human services, health or education
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • 5+ years working with children and/or youth living in historically marginalized communities
  • 5+ years designing and implementing sport/rec-based programs
  • 5+ years leading trainings/workshops for adults
  • Experience designing on-line trainings an asset
  • Good demonstration of problem-solving skills and ability to work in a group
  • Strong technology skills with competency in PowerPoint, Excel and different online communication platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
  • Willingness to work outside of regular 9-5 schedule
  • Valid ‘G’ Driver’s License
  • Fluency in French is an asset
