Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of complex drafting and some elementary design duties in connection with civil, structural, mechanical, piping, architectural, instrumentational and electrical transmission GIS engineering requirements of gas transmission, plant and other engineering projects.
- Produces and/or revises study and working drawings, plans from design layouts, sketches, rough notes and verbal instructions related to engineering projects including isometrics and cross sections for vertical subdivisions and transmission projects.
- Produces and/or revises custom maps, report drawings, standard drawings, schematics, overlays, charts, diagrams, displays and drafting standards. Prepares material and equipment specification notes. Produces architectural renderings, perspective, and 3D and presentation drawings.
- Performs calculations for material quantities, equipment components; imports information utilizing data transfer techniques, digitizing, scanning and conversion software. Analyzes and utilizes survey and other data from multiple sources; obtains detailed dimensions and requirements for standard materials and components. Produces and checks material lists for qualities, selection of materials and products; performs design calculations using standard technical formulae and calculates material and equipment dimensions for fit and tolerance.
- Operates a computer-assisted drafting work station and assists in developing methods and standards to promote its efficient use. Applies photographic reproduction techniques to drawings and photocopy equipment. Enters data and generates reports in support of the System Planners.
- Reviews drawings prepared by other drafters, departments, manufacturers, contractors and consultants to ensure accuracy and compatibility of dimensions, details and adherence to standards and design parameters.
- Provides guidance to customers, clients and other drafters and planners regarding layout of drawings and the application of engineering and engineering drafting standards and procedures; makes arrangements to obtain survey data needed for drawings.
- Provides assistances to engineering staff in the field examination of structures, equipment and instrumentation by preparing sketches, taking measurements and compiling field data.
- Provides technical direction to junior drafters and other employees engaged in drafting related duties.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties, which do not affect the rating of the job.
Requirements
- Completion of a recognized post-secondary technician certificate program in an appropriate drafting program to the relevant Engineering discipline.
- Certified or eligible for certification, at the technician level, by the Applied Sciences Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia.
- Five years recent, related experience.
- Knowledge of computer systems operations, environment and peripherals.
- Working knowledge of the use of CAD/CAM technology (Micro station preferable and knowledge of additional data processing and engineering software such as AUTOCAD, FME and Spatial Direct.
- Sound knowledge of systems operations and construction and maintenance processes and procedures.
- Courteous, professional manner in dealing with internal and external contacts.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure during peak workload situations.
- Sound analytical and decision-making skills, including the ability to interpret data from a variety of sources.
- Sound oral, written and presentation skills.
- Intermediate level keyboarding skills, including the ability to format correspondence, reports and charts.
- Valid British Columbia Driver’s license.
