Department Overview
As one of only a handful of companies that design and manufacture High Frequency (HF) and Very High Frequency (VHF) radio communications systems for military and commercial organisation globally, Barrett Communications (a subsidiary of Motorola Solutions) are constantly innovating and solving thecommunications challenges our customers face in some of the most inhospitable locations around the world.
From our extensive Bibra Lake facility, in the Cockburn Commercial Park, the R&D Engineer will be part of the Engineering Team, developing the next generation of HF and VHF communications products to export to our customers around the world.
Job Description
To manage the projects identified in the Project Roadmap ensuring strategies are appropriate to meet the changing needs and requirements of the business, while maintaining important timeframes and budgets.
Design and develop new products to meet required specifications and industry standards.
Develop electronic hardware and software in support of existing and new products as may be required and provide engineering support to all production and service departments.
Provide guidance and feedback to other R&D Engineers.
Provide support to other departments, especially Testing, Service, Pre-sales and Manufacturing.
Take part in project and product development meetings, reporting on progress and issues.

Basic Requirements
Education:
Bachelor Degree in Electrical/Electronics or equivalent
Experience:
System level design skills, able to create and document system requirements specifications, function designs and detailed designs.
Knowledge of Signal Processing techniques and the ability to implement Digital Signal Processing algorithms.
Experience with electronic and mechanical design CAD software and 3D modeling software.
Knowledge of production methods for electronic and printed circuit boards, plastic and metal materials.
Skills in current industry standard design methodologies and tools.
Programming skills in multiple languages, including C++, C, Java, C#, assembler and scripting languages.
Skills in AHDL/VHDL programming on FPGA devices.
Experienced with modern software development frameworks, such as Eclipse IDE, QT+, Visual Studio, etc.
Strong system maintenance skills for fault detection, manage bug reports, build and release updated software and firmware for test.
Knowledge of networking and communications systems protocols and tools, including physical layer, data link layer, network layer and application/presentation layers.
